Teaser Tuesday: The Mark by Jen Nadol

TeaserTuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Rules:
1. Get the book you’re currently reading
2. Open it to any random page
3. Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page (Be courteous of your readers — DO NOT INCLUDE SPOILERS!)
4. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!

This week’s teaser is: The Mark by Jen Nadol

I expected those first few days to be the worst-the hospital, the funeral, going back to our apartment-but it was after, when the people and the decisions and the questions receded, when everyone else’s life took on its normal rattle and hum and I was left with quiet and solitude in mine, that it became unbearable.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Cassandra Renfield has always seen the mark—a glow around certain people reminiscent of candlelight. But the one time she mentioned it, it was dismissed as a trick of the light. Until the day she watches a man awash in the mark die. After searching her memories, Cassie realizes she can see a person’s imminent death. Not how or where, only when: today.

Armed with a vague understanding of the light, Cassie begins to explore her “gift,” seeking those marked for death and probing the line between decision and destiny. Though she’s careful to hide her secret—even from her new philosophy-obsessed boyfriend—with each impending death comes the temptation to test fate. But so many questions remain. How does the mark work? Why is she the only one who sees it? And finally, the most important of all: If you know today is someone’s last, should you tell them?

Wow – that tease is so true. It’s when everyone else goes back to normal that the person becomes missed the most.

Very nice blog, BTW. My Teaser is up too: http://sweetvernalzephyr.blogspot.com/2009/11/teaser-tuesday.html

I love your teaser! I’ve got to look for that book. The book I’m reading: Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis (it’s not me).

The evening shimmered around me, cool and moist, nothing like the dry summer air back in So Cal. I wondered what my friends were doing down in Cabo right then-definately not worrying about brat camp and werewolves.

Heather – thanks for sharing your selection. Just read the synopsis for Never Cry Wolf and it sounds like an interesting read. I will have to give this book a read.
