I write historical romance set in the early 1800’s in England, but also occasionally on ships and wherever else adventure takes my seafaring heroes and the ladies who love them. The American Library Association’s Booklist journal named me among the “New Stars of Historical Romance”. My debut Regency historical SWEPT AWAY BY A KISS is a Reviewers’ Choice Best Book Award nominee for Best First Historical Romance. CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD (available March 29) has also received a “TOP PICK!” from RT Book Reviews and its hero, Lord Alex Savage a.k.a. the pirate Redstone, is an April 2011 K.I.S.S. In my secret identity I am a professor of European History. Most importantly, I adore chatting about romance with other romance lovers!
Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
The world is Regency-era England — a world of lords and ladies and country great houses, of balls sparkling with bejeweled belles and champagne in cut crystal, of handsome gentlemen dressed to the nines, of decorous drives in the park and elegant drawing rooms bubbling with gossip, of stolen kisses in dark corners and surrendered virtue in a lover’s arms. The world my characters inhabit is London High Society at its nicest and most naughty.
But pause for a moment and, if you dare, draw back the screen…
The world is also colonial Britain – a world of trumpeted conquests against foes as close by as Napoleon and as far away as the glittering East. A world of intrigue and avarice, of bravery and danger, of pirates and scoundrels and thieves who are never merely what they seem on the surface. In the world of my “Rogues of the Sea” Series, my heroes battle for honor, for true nobility and justice and—most of all—to capture the hearts of the daring ladies they love.
Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
My first as a published author. But oh what fun RT is! My advice: enjoy enjoy enjoy!
Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to? What panels are you planning on attending?
I am hosting a Reader’s Workshop TREASURE HUNT with Cherry Adair and Maureen Betita (Wednesday 2:15pm). Lots of swag to be had, so come join the fun!
On the writers track, I am co-panelist with erotic romance author Isabelle Drake for “Sense-Sational and Sexy” (Thursday 10:00am). In this interactive session Isabelle and I offer tips on how to infuse your entire novel with sensuality—not just the love scenes!—and make your story come alive on every page.
I’ll be at Club RT Thursday at 1:30pm and Friday at 11:45am. I’ll be giving away CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD bookmarks and Romance Trading Cards. Please stop by and say hello!
As to what I’m looking forward to… everything!! Especially the Western Reader Roundup (next to a man captaining a ship, I get breathless for a man on horseback), Rebel Without a Cause-Is a Bad Boy Really Good for a Girl? (I’m hoping they’re going to say YES!), the Saucy Sirens Through History party, and always the Mr. Romance Contest.
If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
I will be at Club RT on Thursday at 1:30pm and Friday 11:45am, and I will be signing copies of CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD at the Book Fair on Saturday. And please do stop me if you see me around. I love meeting readers!
