I’m a mom of three boys who has always loved reading romance novels. I practiced law for over ten years as a criminal prosecutor and, although that was worthy work, I never felt it was my passion. I began actively pursuing publication and eventually left my law job to write full time. I sold my first two books in a paranormal series to Berkley, then within about a year sold to Silhouette Romantic Suspense and HQN, one of Harlequin’s single title lines. I write paranormal and contemporary romantic suspense, and my brand encourages readers to “Brave the darkness, discover the light.” My stories are edgy and sexy, but always focus on two people willing to overcome incredible odds for love.
Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
In my debut novel, Chosen By Blood, Book 1 of the Para-Ops Novels, I created a world where citizens of the United States are seeking peace after five years of civil war. During the war, humans battled Otherborn, humanlike creatures with superhuman DNA. Otherborn include vampires, wraiths, shapeshifters, and mages. In order to help heal the nation, the FBI forms its first Para-Ops team with a unique set of skills. When Chosen By Blood opens, vampires are starving as a result of an FBI-sanctioned vaccine used during the war. The vaccine changes the property of human blood so it no longer gives vampires the nourishment they need to thrive. The hero, Knox Devereaux, is a half-breed vampire who struggles with an innate distrust of humans, but he agrees to lead the Para-Ops team in order to find the stolen antidote to the vamp vaccine. The mission leads the team into North Korea. There, the team members must overcome their prejudice and mistrust in order to succeed and survive.
Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is my first RT, so I’m a little nervous, but definitely looking forward to it!
Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to? What panels are you planning on attending?
I’m not speaking on any panels, but I always look to more experienced authors to help me improve my craft. Most of all, I’m looking forward to meeting lots of readers!
If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
I’m a blend of Spanish, Italian, and Filipino, so if you see someone with long dark hair and you’re not quite sure what her ethnicity is, that might be me. Other than that, I think I’m very approachable and I try to smile a lot, although I’m inherently pretty shy. I’ll try to meet new people, but I won’t push my way into conversations. Basically, I’m a mix of introvert and extrovert–I love being social, but then I’ll need to disappear for some alone time to recharge. And since I’ll have my first book signing at RT, I’d sure appreciate anyone who wants to stop by and say hello!
