Across the Worlds Event: The Evaporation of Sofi Snow by Mary Weber

dark faerie tales across the universe badge

Today for Across the Worlds Event we get to visit the magical world of The Evaporation of Sofi Snow by Mary Weber! This is the first book in a brand new sci-fi series from Mary! I read and LOVED her first series and I can’t wait to start this one! Mary put together a really fun mood board for us today so make sure to check it out down below! The Evaporation of Sofi Snow will be releasing on June 6th from Thomas Nelson!

*Enter to win a finished copy of The Evaporation of Sofi Snow at the end of this post!*

Mood Board

Like… They are EVERYTHING.

I use them to help formulate my world building, particularly when I start writing a fresh series. I also use them to explore ideas for events in those worlds, and I even keep a pic document on my phone in order to better immerse in a scene.

The below are my mood boards for my new book, THE EVAPORATION OF SOFI SNOW – a story about Earth in the not-so-distant-future, a gamer girl who’s searching for her brother, a playboy who’s hiding from blackmail, and a sinister alien ice-planet that’s appeared on the far side of the moon . <3

And because the story is technically set in two “worlds” (Earth and the planet), I knew I’d need to develop each of them individually. The first being Earth, obviously, just after World War IV – where skycams monitor every move, corporations rule in place of governments, the internet knows every detail on humanity, and the giant, clean, metropolis cities are full of flashing telescreens, 3-D advertisements, and hover cars.

Mood Board 1

Except, the class divide is enormous – with the impoverished living on the outskirts, where blackmarkets flourish and access to, or rejection from, medical and tech advancements keep everyone in line.

Mood Board 2

While behind the scenes, the gamer girl, Sofi, plays in a worldwide event called the Fantasy Fighting games, where virtual reality is combined with real-life scenarios, in which humans fight as sport. In a giant coliseum.

Mood Board 3Mood Board 4

At the age of 17, Sofi is an old soul who’s guarded and sassy and loves her brother and the bass drop in music more than anything on Earth.

Mood Board 5

And she wants nothing to do with Miguel – the Hispanic, brilliant, 19-year-old ambassador to the aliens – and his wealth of secrets. Including the fact he’s never gotten over Sofi.

Mood Board 6

Unfortunately, they’re about to encounter the alien planet together. Where all hell will break loose.

Mood Board 7

So those are my boards and worlds. At least the beginning of them. ;) How about you guys? Do you every use mood boards? I feel like this is what Pinterest was MADE for lol. <3

Mary WeberAbout Mary:

They live in California which is perfect for stalking tacos, Joss Whedon, and the ocean. You can get nerdy with her on Facebook (Mary Weber, Author), Web (, or Instagram (MaryWeberAuthor).

The Evaporation of Sofi Snow

Available June 6, 2017 by Thomas Nelson

About this Book:

Ever since the Delonese ice-planet arrived eleven years ago, Sofi’s dreams have been vivid. Alien. In a system where Earth’s corporations rule in place of governments and the humanoid race orbiting the moon are allies, her only constant has been her younger brother, Shilo. As an online gamer, Sofi battles behind the scenes of Earth’s Fantasy Fighting arena where Shilo is forced to compete in a mix of real and virtual blood sport. But when a bomb takes out a quarter of the arena, Sofi’s the only one who believes Shilo survived. She has dreams of him. And she’s convinced he’s been taken to the ice-planet.

Except no one but ambassadors are allowed there.

For Miguel, Earth’s charming young playboy, the games are of a different sort. As Ambassador to the Delonese, his career has been built on trading secrets and seduction. Until the Fantasy Fight’s bomb goes off. Now the tables have turned and he’s a target for blackmail. The game is simple: Help the blackmailers, or lose more than anyone can fathom, or Earth can afford.

“Would you want to visit this world?” But I’m already in this world, what do you mean? Regarding *that* world–maybe, maybe not.

I’d like to visit this world but only as an observer. The ice planet sounds scenic.

I am so excited for Mary’s new release! I entered! And the book I am querying has an ice planet as well… Even though I am cruel to my characters and put them through lots of misery, I would never want to live in my (or Mary’s) world lol! I’d like to think I’d survive, but probably not. :D
