Across the Worlds Event: The Wish Granter by C.J. Redwine

dark faerie tales across the universe badge

Today for Across the Worlds Event we get to visit the magical world of The Wish Granter by CJ Redwine! This is the companion novel to The Shadow Queen and it is an action-packed fantasy tale inspired by Rumpelstiltskin!!! You can read Zed’s review of The Shadow Queen here and a review for The Wish Granter will be coming soon! CJ put together a fun post full of the do’s and don’t of this world and some images she used for inspirations!

*Enter to win a signed copy of The Wish Granter at the end of this post!*

Do’s & Don’ts

THE WISH GRANTER is a dark epic fantasy inspired by the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale and takes place in the seaside kingdom of Sundraille. Sundraille is a monarchy with a class system consisting of aristocrats, merchants, workers, and servants, though the growing power behind the throne is Alistair Teague, an exiled fae who will grant you the deepest wish of your heart but will return in ten years for your soul.

Here are some Do’s and Don’ts for the world of Sundraille.

DO pay your respects to the newly crowned king, and while you’re there, make sure you sample some of his sister’s cooking. She might not be a very proper princess (that happens when you grow up as the mostly ignored bastard child of the king), but she can whip up an amazing dessert in less time than it takes other girls to put on a corset and fancy gown.

Redwine Post 1

DON’T visit East Kosim Thalas, the slums of Sundraille’s capital city. The people there are desperate, and there’s very little the street bosses won’t do to someone who looks like they have coin.

Redwine Post 2

DO use the canals to navigate Kosim Thalas instead of a carriage, as the streets are often very crowded.

Redwine Post 3

DON’T try to find Alistair Teague’s house. If he doesn’t kill you for trespassing, the house probably will.

Redwine Post 4

DO visit the sea, though be careful of the ports. Teague’s men work those ports, and unwary tourists could be snatched up and sold in the neighboring kingdom of Balavata.

Redwine Post 5

DON’T forget to pack clothes for balls and fancy brunches with the aristocrats.

Redwine Post 6

DO stick with Princess Ari when you go to these balls. Not only does she have excellent taste when it comes to picking the best items from the buffet, she’ll make you laugh and help you escape early when your feet start hurting.

Redwine Post 7

DON’T move too fast around Sebastian, the new royal weapons master. He grew up in East Kosim Thalas, and he’s used to seeing everyone as a threat.

Redwine Post 8

DO watch your step around the palace grounds. You don’t want the creatures who guard it to think you’re the king’s enemy.

Redwine Post 9

And finally, whatever you do, DON’T ever make a wish with Alistair Teague.

The Wish Granter

Available February 14, 2017 by Balzer + Bray

About this Book:

An epic, romantic, and action-packed fantasy inspired by the tale of Rumpelstiltskin, about a bastard princess who must take on an evil fae to save her brother’s soul, from C. J. Redwine, the New York Times bestselling author of The Shadow Queen. Perfect for fans of Graceling and the Lunar Chronicles.

The world has turned upside down for Thad and Ari Glavan, the bastard twins of Súndraille’s king. Their mother was murdered. The royal family died mysteriously. And now Thad sits on the throne of a kingdom whose streets are suddenly overrun with violence he can’t stop.

Growing up ignored by the nobility, Ari never wanted to be a proper princess. And when Thad suddenly starts training Ari to take his place, she realizes that her brother’s ascension to the throne wasn’t fate. It was the work of a Wish Granter named Alistair Teague who tricked Thad into wishing away both the safety of his people and his soul in exchange for the crown.

So Ari recruits the help of Thad’s enigmatic new weapons master, Sebastian Vaughn, to teach her how to fight Teague. With secret ties to Teague’s criminal empire, Sebastian might just hold the key to discovering Alistair’s weaknesses, saving Ari’s brother—and herself.

But Teague is ruthless and more than ready to destroy anyone who dares stand in his way—and now he has his sights set on the princess. And if Ari can’t outwit him, she’ll lose Sebastian, her brother…and her soul.

I really like fairytale retellings and any book with the fae, but I’m a little worried about all the violence in the streets, so, no I wouldn’t visit.

No… It’d be too easy for people to wish their lives away by being able to give up 10 years of their souls. Sounds too scary.
